Project Brief

Technology House were invited to undertake this project working in tandem with one of our strategic partners who are the UK’s leading office interior design, fit out and refurbishment specialist. The installation was spread across 5 floors of a newly refurbished building in East London. The TER (Terminal Equipment Room) was located on the Lower Ground floor level with remote cabinets situated on each of the 4 upper floors. Fibre optic and multicore voice backbone links were installed to push both the telephony and data network up to the upper floors.

  • 1487 Category 6 Secure LAN outlets
  • 164 Category 5e Security Outlets
  • 282 Category 6 backbone links
  • 456 Multimode backbone fibre links between floors
  • 700 Multicore voice backbone links between floors

The security system required Category 5e UTP cables to be installed in order that the CCTV and access control functions could be fully IP networked.

Project Summary

This project ran extremely smoothly because of the professional management of the main contractor. The building did benefit from raised access floors which allowed floor boxes to be installed throughout all 5 of the internal floors. The horizontal cabling was loose laid on basket tray which was installed beneath the false floor and home run back to the remote equipment rooms on each floor. The Cat 6 cables were terminated onto LJ6C outlets and presented in data plates housed inside the floor boxes. Each of the remote comms cabinets on the upper floors were linked via multimode fibre and multicore voice cables. The fibre cores were terminated and presented as an SC duplex outlet whilst the voice cables were terminated onto RJ45 patch panels to interface with the horizontal cabling. The Category 5e cables were installed throughout the false ceiling voids and loose laid onto ceiling mounted basket tray. The cables were terminated onto standard RJ45 outlets.

Technology House really pulled this project out of the bag as they were introduced very late in the programme. They were up against it from the offset as timescales were extremely tight and the phasing of the project meant that certain areas had to be operational very quickly. They showed true professionalism in their approach and filled me with confidence from the moment I met them, I can’t thank them enough.
